SWISS HOTEL IN A MOUNTAIN TOP.
The most extraordinary hotel in the world has just been completed on the Jungfraujoch, the shoulder just below the crest of the Jungfrau, one of the giants of the Bernese Oberland. It would he more correctly described as excavated rather than built, as nearly all the structure, which is of five storeys, is actually within the mountain. Everything is worked by electricitv, including lift, light, heating and cooking. Access to the hotel is gained by a tunnel at the rear from the terminal station of the Jungfraujoeh Railway, which from Eigenletcher runs through a tunnel traversing the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau Mountains during ils five mile climb to its final height of 11,600 feet above sea level. The photograph shows the hotel jutting out from the side/of the mountain, and the magnificent view of the “ Roof of Europe ” obtained from it. (Central Press photo.)
