In dealing with lacerated wounds

the first thing to do is thoroughly clean the wound of all impurities with some simple disinfectant. Tho edges of the wound should then he brought together as close as possible. a pad of lint, soaked in disinfectant, placed over it. Iveep the lint in its place with a bandage, if possible. In bad cases stitching must be resorted to. or tissue, unless it is certain they are retarding the healing of the wound. You cannot tell whether this is so at the time the wound is received. Never hesitate to consult a properly qualified vet. if you have any doubts as to the condition of the patient. Puncture wounds such as result from simple bites, should be syringed out with an antiseptic, and the external wound kept open by a plug of cdtton wool soaked in antiseptic. Sprains sometimes occur with working terriers; the muscles most com- i monly ’affected are those of the thigh, shoulder, and breast. Bathing, with J Ararln Vater, and rubbing in some good j embrocation is an effective treatment. * Injuries to tliei eye, outside of bath- ] ing with warm water and boracic,

should always be loft to the care of a professional man. A bottle of some good disinfectant is useful for cleaning cuts and wounds, and general washing purposes, both, of dogs and kennels. A bottle of peroxide of hydrogen is invaluable for the treatment of sloughing sores, canker of the ear, etc, etc. For skin troubles generally, paraffin oil and sulphur mixed is tlje best local application I know of, and it is. also an excellent hair stimulant for bald places. Worm powders or capsules ore in constant demand, and purgative pills of some kind should be kept handy. Canker cure is a good thing to have by one, though terriers are not so subject to this unpleasant malady as are the larger breeds. For accidents generally you will require lint, cotton wool, bandages, safety pins, oil silk. and surgical • needles, though. when it comes to i stitching it is better, if iMTSsnble. to enlist the services of a veterinary and? have the job done properly. ! It is a mistake to bandage up .every j little scratch Or cut on a dog. Tf be j can reach the place with his tongue he will, as a rule, effect a more rapid cure by licking the place.
