THE SOLUTION.
CROSS-WORD PUZZLE. MANY COMPETITORS. Judging from the answers received this morning at the “ Star ” office, thousands of Christchurch, people must have attempted to solve No. 2 of the Cross-Word Puzzle series. Few of them apparently found it particularly difficult. They will be given a harder test shortly. Among the competitors *ivho havo written giving the correct solution are . E.T.. A. 8.. “ Linwood,” Jerry, and Olive H. “Linwood” says:— There were one or two bad hurdles in No. 2. I made an error at tho outset by putting down S O L E instead of C A R P, and my obstinacy would not let me change it for some time. Another hard one was 7 (down), but eventually I got A R 1 A N, which the dictionary tells me is correct for one who denies the deity of Christ. For a time T could not think of A' I K I N G S, preferring to believe that the Puzzle Editor must mean Pirates. Let us have the next one soon. It’s more than an amusement it’s an education.”
ANOTHER PUZZLE. No. 3 of the series will be published to-morrow.
