CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Air Wvvern Wilson, S.M) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender for drunkenness was fined os, in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment. AFTER THE ( O J,LISION. William Stevens was « barged with being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart, and also with ill-treat-ing a horse by driving the horse while, it had an open sore. He pleaded guilty to both charges. Sub-Inspector Cameron said that at about 6.20 last evening accused was in a cart, which was driven by a lady. The cart collided with a motor at the Bank of New Zealand corner, breaking the collarbone of one of the occupants of the car. The lady then disappeared and accused took charge of the. cart and drove off at a fast speed. The had had a wound in its lt'£r ns the result of the collision, necessitating six stitches being put in. For your recklessness you are fined £o, in default one month’s imprisonment. ’ said the -Magistrate. A fine of 20s was imposed on the second charge. WEX.T TO THE RACES. Joseph John Al'Lintock (Air Taa vnebam) pleaded guilty to a- charge oi being on the Aletropoli tan Trotting Club grounds while a race meeting was in progress, lie being a person excluded from racecourses. A fine of 40s and costs was imposed. TRUANCY tin charges of failing to send then children to school, the following were convicted and fined : —H. A. Ayers 2s, Robert Henderson 10s (or two charges) .and AN iHi am Alii no os (two charges?. REMANDED In order to get the Probation Officer's report, George Michael Strang (AJr Hunter), who appeared on charges of stealing a suit case and contents valued at £l2 and with obtaining £1 hv false oretonces. was remanded until Friday. Ihe Magistrate said that Strang’s principal cause of trouble was drink, ami he had been on the island three times, but it did not seem to have done him much good. A T.LEGED BOOK M AKER Joseph Nohra was charged with loitering in Cathedral Square for the purpose of betting and with entering into bets with Arthur AY. Harvey and John Edward J. Anderson agreeing to pay totalisator rates. Mr Sargent, who appeared for a ecus - ed. applied for an adjournment until next Wednesday. The adjournment- was granted. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. A plea, of not guilty was entered by Ivy Freeman, who was charged with stealing £3 7s Gd from Ruth Mary Beardsley. It was alleged that accused stole the money from the kitchen of Beardsley’s mother’s residence. Accused elected to he tried by a. jury and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed. GR A N TED PROB ATI ON. Nellie Wlialesly. aged nineteen, pleaded not. guilty to a charge of stealing a gramophone recoid the value of 11s Gd, the property of Alfred LawAccused was admitted tj probation for twelve months.
