RICCARTON AND THE CITY.
Sir, Tn reply to Mr C. W. Barrett’s letter of last Saturday, giving the rates on small sections in the city. 1 wish t«> say that he does not give the sines of those sections. Why ? Are they too small? The following is a list of city rates and Riccarton rates, including all rates. Permission was given me by the city people to give the number of the house and name of the street or road. Each one has stated that he wished he was out of the city. Permission lias not been given me by the 1 ticcarton people to give the number >i the house, so I will give street or road only. If anyone wishes to verify the numbers, they can be given. His reply was “ No.” Fendalton does not want to join the city. If it pars her to keep out it will pay Riccarton. There are a great number of city people who have not yet got high water pressure nr sewage. I maintain that the city should put into order what she has already got, and then think of taking in another block. The city has, 1 believe. an antecedent liability debt of £*2.000. If we joined the city, we
would havn to pay a portion of tliat. There is also another poll to be taken in a few weeks’ time. If carried, that will put up the city rates again. f am, T. M. FOIM>. IS, Stafford Strec*. ]{iconHon.
