FANCY DRESS BALL.
A most enjoyable and successful fancy dress ball was held at Burwood on Thursday evening in aid of the school funds. The hall was beautifully decorated with streamers and spring flowers, while the supper tables, spread with appetising refreshmen :s, bore numbers of vases of spring flowers. The music was supplied by Bradford’s Orchestra, and extras were played by Messrs L. Salkeld and L. Moor and the Misses M. Rowse and E. Thompson. After the grand march, Mr L. B. Bradstock. the M.C., on behalf of the School Committee thanked Mesdames G. Robinson, D. Baird and A. Selfe and Air J. Roscoe for donations of prizes, and introduced Mr and Mrs Gamble, Mayor and Mayoress of New Brighton, who had kindly ottered to judge the fancy costumes. Mr Gamble expressed his pleasure on behalf of Mrs Gamble and himself at being present, and congratulated the district on the very fine response to the efforts of the School Committee. The awards were: Ladies’ fancy costume. Miss M. Rowse (Christmas Tree) 1. Miss E. Stapleton (Butterfly) 2: best original ladies’ costume, Mrs M'Laughlin (Honey) 1, Miss R. Robinson (Letter Box) 2. men's fanev costume, Mrs J. Liggins and Mr H. 1 Till (Mexicans) 1, Mr M'Kay (Indian) 2; most original men’s costume. Mr Kay (Mo) 1. Mr Watson (Dummy) 2. Those present in fancy costume included: Mesdames .Teal (Keep to the Left). Reid (Harem Lady), Pankhurst (Strawberries and Cream), Watson (Twink Dyes),. Jones (Piere). M. Cook (Grannie Chamberlain), N. Cook (Lamp Shade). E. Nelson (Hawaiian), Chapman (Harem Lady). Todhunter (Harem Lady). Scott (Artist), Monson (Golliwog). Hill (Jockey), Cumberpatch (Night).
