BIG CYCLE RACE.
ROADS IN FAIR ORDER. SOU’-WESTER PROMISED (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON, September 26. For to-morrow’s big cycle race, the roads are in fair order. A reporter travelling with an official car journeyed over the route of the raco to-day, and found the road as tar as Ashburton in fairly good order. There are had patches ot loose shingle at Weldons, Burnham and between Bankable and Rakaia. The road at the latter part is exti-emely had. From Rakaia to Ashburton the road is extremely good. Great interest is being evidence., along the route of the contest. At the different places called at there were many ruling tavonrites so far as the winner is concerned. At .the time ot writing the nor’-wester had changed to south-west, which, if it continues t*o-Tnorrow, will make tor very fast time. POSTING THE RESULTS. Progress reports showing the leading men duiing the Timaru-Christ-church road race will be posted at the “ Star ” office to-morrow .
