FRANCE UNEASY.
CONFERENCE CRISIS FEARED. by Telegraph Association —Copyright ReutJer's Telegram®. (Received July 24, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON. July 23. In anticipation of a crisis at the Inter-Allied Conference, an unusual crowd of sightseers gathered in Downing Street to-day, when the principal died delegates were closeted with Mr MacDonald (Prime Minister) and Mr J. H. Thomas (Colonial Secretary) in che Cabinet room. This morning the sub-committee mentioned last evening had not completed its labours, and, as it is expected that tho holding of the plenary session oi the conference will depend on the result of its work, uneasiness at possible conference developments is expressed in the French newspapers to-day. It :'s feared that M. Herriot, while determined not to yield France’s rignt to isolated action in the event of German default, may accept a compromise which "will simply gild the bitter pill. The “Petite Parisien” suggests that M. Herriot will not hesitate to sacrifice a £40,000,000 loan rather than permit encroachment on the Treaty of Versailles and the sovereignty of France.
