During the evening a Cinderella waltz and a waltzing competition were held, the winners I ■ and Miss Pickett (Cinderella waltz) and Mr W. Overend j and Miss Buxton (waltz). Bradford's j orchestra supplied the music. Mr G. Cain and W. Led gar d were M.C.’s. i This week the assembly will hold a plain and fancy-dress dance. On Wednesday night Mr 3 Cecil Maitland gave a progressive bridge party at her house in Mere Mere Street, Timaru. She wore a handsome black brocade frock with velvet lattice trimming. The plavers were: Alesdam.es Malfrov, W. D. 'Revell, W. H. Campbell, W. Gunn. E. J. LeCren, H. Innes-Jones, N R. Cox, Lindsay C Byran King, R. H. Joyce, F. Davidson, W. Thomas, It H. Priest, C. S. Young, English and K. W. Hall. The first prize was won by the latter, Mrs Joyce coming second and Mrs W. Gunn third. The death of Mrs Ann Cossey at Papatoetoe on Sunday removed one of Auckland’s earliest native-born settlers. She was born in 1843 at Hokianga. The unsettled conditions brought on by the Maoris caused the family to move nearer to Auckland, and a new home was made at Drury. In 1868, Mrs Cossey married the late Mr J. T. A successful euchre and dance was held by the employees of P. and D. Duncan at the liidgley Hall, Armagh | Street, recently. Mr Mackie, the chairman, was supported by a committee comprised of Messrs Morrow. White, Col beck. Lawson. J. Weir, S. Moods, Burrows, Al’Farlan, Stone house, Lavender and Underlay. Eight-eight sm down to cards, the games being directed bv Mr Burrows, alter which supper .vns served. Dancing was enjoyed ail tiie evening, Mr Morrow acting as M.C. Wells’s orchestra supplied the music. The prize winners for the euchre were (ladies) Mr, .r. retro first, _\lr, J. Baxter second and Mrs Cov,'line; third - (men’s) Mr (i. Woods first, Mr B. Chapman second anti Mr Tc-aoli-,viek third. A special prize to Mrs L. 'Woods was also A jazz surprise party organised bv Misses W. Jefferies and M. Dodd was held in the Hzzeldean Bond Hall on Saturday. Tin- hostesses wore Misses K- M’George and H. M’George. A pleasant evening was spent in games and dancing, -the lucky spot waltz being won by Miss V. Gibb and Mr Jackson. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Bead.
