GOOD SAMARITAN ROBBED.
Lilian Allen, who was taken from prison and given a job as domestic at the house of the Rev H. B. Mackay. Vll Saints’ Vicarage, Margaret Street, W., robbed her benefactor of a pearl necklace, a bishop’s topaz pectoral ross and other articles, worth £52. She was also accused of stealing, ♦orging and uttering a postal order The woman had pawned the articles, and the paw nbrokers asked for £9 10s compensation for the articles which were pledged with them. The M agist rate said that, from the pawnbrokers’ point of view, Mr .Mackay had himself to blame for having taken into his emplo3-ment a. girl who he knew to be a convicted thief, though he did so with tho highest motives. & He made an order that the ecclesiastical cross, which was pledged for £2. should be given up to Mr Mackay without payment. The other articles must be given up on payment to the pawnbrokers of one half of the £7 10s for which they were pledged.
