COLERIDGE DUPLICATION.

Mr F. Langbein, District Engineer for the Public Works Department, in-

formed a ‘ : Lyttelton Times ’ ’ reporter yesterday that tenders will be called almost immediately for the extension to the power house building, in connection with the duplication of the Lake Coleridge hydro-electric plant. The building when completed will form part of the existing power house. The excavations for the building are already in hand.

The contractors for the new tunnel in connection with the duplication work have made arrangements for obtaining a pump capable of dealing with the water that is soaking into the centre shaft. In the meantime the work* is suspended in that part of the tunnel, but the men are still able to w’ork at both ends of the tunnel, and also on the excavation of the crossdrive from the old centre shaft to the new centre shaft.
