Matthews, who said that he had practically Receipted the offer of n French firm to exploit his death-rajs. The British Government, the inventor said, wa.s interested, but no more, and this princely offer could not bo refused. Chuntiers du Rhone, a wellknown firm, had place! big laboratories at his disposal for experiments, and had also offered 'him a partnership. . Last month a cable message from 1/ondon stated that Ylr Grindell Matthews, the inventor of a method of destroying Zeppelins, had succeeded i:i producing an electric ray which was capable of vrnnsmittvng power sufficient to kill man or animal, or to stop an aeroplane- motor engine. .It was stated that the. discovery had aroused much interest in France, where some inventors haa claimed similar diseov-
