ORDINARY MEETING. The Christchurch Tramway' Board met \-esterda3- ; present—Mr H. Pearce i (acting-chairman). Hon J. Barr, AI.L.C., and Alessrs S. A. Staples, D. i Sykes, G. T. Booth. \Y. J. Walter, •I. W. Beanland, and J. A. Flesher. WORKS AND TRAFFIC. The Works and Traffic Committee imported : “At the request of the general manI ager, the inspector of 'police sent a ! dttachment of men. two mounted, to Cathedral Square to ass ; st in keeping the pasage-wa.v dear for tramcars curing the* college students’ procession. 1 heir services were very efficient, and much appreciated. A letter of thanks has been sent. “The Heathcote County Council has side-channelled Page’s Road, and asks that tramway jioles should be altered iin position. These poles were placed, * in their present position under statutory authority, when Page’s Road wa.*> 1 the private property Of the board. SubI sequently the road was handed over to ; a load authority free of cost. The | poles are in such a position that the I now kerbing could easily have adhered lo their aligning. The board has intimated that it will move the poles at the council’s expense.
‘The Woolston Burgesses’ Association has asked that some form of crudoil should be mixed with water and used for dust-abatement purposes. The* committee has replied that the road.-., apart from tram tracks, are watered by the board at the expense of the City Council, and has referred th* association to that body.
“The Spreydon Burgesses’ Association has asked whether the hoard inttnds to further extend the Spreydon extension, in view of the erection « l the new school in Lyttelton Street. 'Hie committee has replied that it has no such intention.
“A committee cf the Riccartou Borough Council has asked whether, in the event of the council laying Kict-ar- j ton Road with tarred macadam, the board would treat its tracks in a similar way. The tracks have recently h. cn ‘laid in new iqetal, and the cornnfittqe does not favour the expenditure of £2OOO in replacing the top with tarred macadam. It discussed the question of tar-sealing the track, which would serve the same purpose j at a much cheaper cost. The commit- i tee has advised the council that, when j it completes its plans, the question of tar-sealing could, be further considered if the council so desires. “The Automobile Association has endorsed the board’s letter to the Railway Department asking that con si delation should be g’ven to an improved -—and. it is considered, a cheaper • method of protecting railway crossings. “The United Burgesses’ Association fas asked that cheap excursion fares should be introduced for seaside traffic. The association has been asked what fares it desires should be charged, and the conditions under which the cars should run. On receipt of a reply, the matter will be further considered ’ ’ The import was adopted. MISCELLANEOUS. Association thanked tiie j board for granting reduced fares to j and from the Winter Show.
