GALE ON THE COAST.
ARAHURA BUFFETED. Puie ajihociatiow. NAPIER. May 19. The Arahura left Napier for Gisborne J on Saturday morning and struck the I full force of the storm raging on the coast. The vessel battled against the l gale for over twenty-four hours, but 1 found the port of Gisborne unworkable I and finally returned to Napier this morning, with her coal supplies ex- ; hausted. • The passengers underwent a trying I time, while the ship was buffeted by j heavy seas. No damage is. reported. ( The vessel leaves again to-night. I Other shipping at Napier was disor- ! ganised, and the large vessels Piako and i City of Birmingham put to sea to ride | out the gale. Work was resumed on | the waterfront this morning.
