THE EX-KAISER
It is impossible to imagine greater contrasts than are presented by the career of the Hohenzollern who is about to re-enter the Germany from which he was ignominiously expelled six years ago. Of these, the first is not .special to the affairs of William 11. of Hohenzollern. On the contrary. the affairs of many others arc touched by the contrast * between the past and present. There is. for instance, the Cabinet of Mr Lloyd George, which inarched to the general
election of 1918 behind the slogan of its chief, shouting “ Hang the Raiser and make Germany pay.” To this fierce pageant of ** Righteous Vengeance.” what a contrast the subsequent proceedings. And. so far as the “Hang the Kaiser” part goes, here- is that ex-potentate, after the enjoyment of six years of quiet life, with much money at his disposal and sheltered against all possible hostile attack, even of fanatical anarchists, calmlv prenaring to go back to Germauv.- ’ New Zealand Times.” Wellington.
