Jurors summoned to appear at the Supreme Court for the week commencing on Monday are not- now 7 required to attend. The Canterbury Steamship Company's steamer Gale brought the mail from Wellington yesterday in place of the ferry steamer. The Gale arrived at Lyttelton at 4.5 p.m. with about 17 0 bags of mail. A motion that the Canterbury head centre of the Royal Life Saving Society withdraw from affiliation with the D'> minion Council of the R.L.S.S. will be proposed at a moetting of the centre on Wednesday next. A parents’ anti children's social was held in St Paul’s School Hall last evening. There was a large at. ten dauce of children, mothers and fathers and a very enjoyable evening was spent in games and music. A number of musical items were contributed by the children, after which supper was provided. The Oxford Terrace Church, encouraged by last month’s success will hold the evening service to-morrow night in the Liberty Theatre. The aim is to offer non-churchgoers an opportunity of finding out, on neutral ground, what church is like. The one hundred chorus c hoir, under Mr V. C. Peters, will lead the singing, and there will be special male voice items. The Rev J. J. North w ill preach on *‘What's Wrong with the World.” From fi.3o to 6.45 an amplifier will make audible all over the Square a sacred solo aar.l aJshort speech by Mr North on “Haunted Meu.”
