MAIN HIGHWAYS.
REFERRED TO EXECUTIVE COUNCIL. The Christchurch office of the Public Works Department was advised yesterday that the roads in Central Canterbury which have been recommended as main highways will probably be- gazetted next week. A list of all the roads approved by- the Main Highways Board has been handed to the Minister ot Public Works and will be submitted at the next meeting of the Executive Council.
The roads in the Central Canterburydistrict which are expected to be gazetted are as follows : (1) Main North Road from city boundary-. via Papanui, Empire Bridge. Kaiapoi. Woodend, Leitlifield, Amberley to Waipara River. (2) Main South Road from Clyde Road, Church Corner, Sockburn, Hornby. Templeton, Rolleston, Bankside to Rakaia River. (3) Bealey Road from Church Corner by Yaldhurst, West Melton, Aylesbury*. Kirwee, Darfleld. Sheffield. Springfield to Kowai River Bridge. (4) Southbridge Road from Sockburn by Prebbleton. Lincoln College, Springston, Ellesmere Bridge, Leeston to Southbridge. (5) Akaroa Road from City boundary by Halsweil, Tai Tapu, Motukarara, Little River and Duvauchelle to Akaroa. (6) From Main North Road beyond Empire Bridge to Chainey's Ford, Dixon’s Road. Eyreton, Eyre Bridge, Swannanoa. Horrelville to Bennett's J action. (7) Rangiora by Cust. Bennetts, Oxford. Bexley, Waimakariri Gorge to Waddington. (8) From Rangiora by Ashley Bridge, Loburn, Ashley Gorge to Oxford. (9> Rangiora by Flaxton. Skew Bridge, Waimakariri Bridge and Middle Island Road to junction
with No. G. t (10) Marshland Road from Chaney# Corner to city- boundary. (11) Christchurch City boundary to Sumner Borough boundary and from Deaf School to signal station at Lyttelton. The roads from Ashley Bank to Amberley-, Christchurch to New Brighton and Lyttelton to Teddington. which were included in the original list recommended by the District Highway a Council have been deleted by the Main Highways Board.
