MADAME ACTS AS SECRETARY.
A secretary is a very important personage. \\ hen she transacts her duties efficiently her worth is inestim- ; able. j The pleasant. orderly atmosphere ! v hich is a feature of model committee | meetings largely depends on her. and j she can do more than anyone else to i promote the interests of a. society. The average woman imagines, when she accepts the office of secretary. tliat the hulk of her duties will consist in drawing no the minutes. But this is only a minor oart of the work. the entire business arrangements of the meetings are left to her. Upon her shoulders falls the greater part of the work of planning the syllabus, if she is acting for an improvement society ol any description. Through her i lie society communicates with the . outside world. It is. therefore- very necessary that! a secretary should bo rich in courage. : enthusiasm, tact and discretion. She should be well informed. but never officious. She must attach great importance to ! the accurate upkeep of her minute book Detailed notes should be lotted down during the meetings, and entered in the book as soon as possible afterwards. There will then be no ideal minute book should contain a record of : All resolutions proposed from the chair, whether carried or not. all questions put from the chair the number of votes on each division: names of speakers; the decisions of the chairman on points of order : notice of further consideration ol a proceeding which lias been postlulled" or adjournednotices of new motions to be dealt with at a future meeting, and, most important of all, r \\n e "7.tl.u.siastic se. retarv will soon find that 1 < r period, of office has been - '.nliileflcc/"" in ’ ,C ‘ lStf 1 Sclt " G.J.C.
