MEN AND WEDDING RINGS.

When my brother-in-law returned from a business trip in the States, I was surprised to notice a signet ring on the third finger of his left hand. Ho is not fond of personal adornment, so I asked him why, after being seven years married, he had suddenly developed a fondness for jewellery. “ I hate wearing the thing,” ho said seriously, “ but J had to tic ’.t—for my wife’s sake, my own sake, and the sake of the people I met.” The question of whether a married man should wear a ring is a matter of much interest. I dislike jewellery for men. but 1 am sure a good deal of heartache and misunderstanding would be avoided if every married couple exchanged wedding rings knowing whether the men she meets socially and in business are married or not. though she oimht to know—for mauv reasons. She mav find herself attracted to a man, think her interest reciprocated, and wonder in her heart whether she dare hope there is “anything in it.” But she can hardly ask him any more thin a man can volunteer the information blatantly and obviously. It is quite easv to find out whether •i woman is married or not : even .f the hands arc covered, there is tl-o tell-tale “Miss” or ‘Mrs” for a»! to hear! True, nice married men i i a conversation—but how is one to know which are the nice men?

Altogether, it is a perplexing pi*' • bicni and one which, in these clays of “ equal rights," should bo discussed and solved by women. We should all bo saved a good deal of unnecessary trouble by a sensible solution.
