ESCAPED IN PYJAMAS.
PERTH, April 30. A remarkable escapade is reported concerning a man who arrived recently from South Australia, and who is wanted in that State to answer a charge of false pretences. Two constables tried to catch him at his lodgings at midnight. While one remained downstairs, the other went up and met the man. who was clad in pyjamas. The man turned, ran down | a hall and through a woman’s bedroom, 1 and slid down a balcony post. In front j of the building he dodged flic second j policeman and entered a motor-car ! which was standing on the road. Clad | only in his pyjamas, the suspect drove • off at full speed, and was not heard of i again until daybreak. At York, sixty miles away, lie robbed ; a sleeping hotel lodger of his clothes ■ containing cash and a cheque book. He 1 then cashed valueless cheques, it. is al- ! leged. to obtain petrol, food and drink as he passed through other coun - | try towns. J Subsequently he got back to the met- ! ropolitan area, and the motor-car was ! found deserted near North Fremantle, j The fugitive has not since been seen.
