FAILS TO APPEAR.

ORDER FOR ARREST. SUPREME COURT ABSENTEE The name of Charles Henry Augustus Jones was called loudly in the Supreme Court ami precincts of the building this morning, but without response. Last Monday Jones was ordered to appear at ten o’clock to-day for sentence on a charge of making a false declaration to a registrar under the Marriage Act- Jones Vas married to a girl aged 15. Mr Twynehum said Accused had been allowed out on It is own recognisance ; he had been on bail on a number of occasions in connection with the Lower Court proceedings and had always appeared punctually. Counsel had been out of town and had not seen Jones, but be had been seen by his clerks yesterday. Jones understood distinctly that he was to be present by ten o’clock and counsel was absolutely at a loss to know why he had not appeared. He thought it might be as well to have him arrested and detained for a while in order to teach him a lesson. His Honor: You don’t know where he is ? Mr Twvneham : I know where he resides. * His Honor ordered that Jones be arrested and brought before the Court at a quarter past two this afternoon. Shortly after tlie.se incidents in Court Jones was discovered bv a detective and he was taken into custody He was brought to the Court, but later sentence was deferred till Wednesday. Jones to remain in custody in the meantime.
