THE GENERAL EFFECT.
BY STNBAD. The wicked modern girl so wild once more is coming in for blame, and left and right is she reviled by people shocked who murmur ‘‘.Shame! ’’ “The girfs to-day display,” says one. “a gaudy love of dresses fine : and if they can but hare their fun, no painful process they’ll decline. They pierce thenears and pinch their feet, and paint and powder fit to kill ; while, judging by the food they eat, it’s marvellous that they’re not ill. In search of fun they do a freeze, at every fashionable hall ; their skirts reach scarcely to their knees, their frocks are hardly there at all.” ‘‘You’re right,” another sadly cries, -and, also, not in dress alone the girls to-day to watchers wise must always bring a gloomy groan. Miss Nineteen-Twenty-four is far inclined to make the pace too hot; as innocent as Grandmamma she most decidedly is net. Most recklessly she goes the pace in search of new sensations wild ; I hate her pointed, powdered face — girls ought to be more meek and mild.” He may be right—l do not know ; but still, what els© can you expect? Young piqn continue still to show they- like the general effect.
