CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING-. The forty-second annual meeting of the Canterbury Caledonian Society was lleld last night in tho rooms of the.-Automobile Association. Sir C. 8. Thomas presided over a good attendance, which included many ladies. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report 'and balance-sheet, said that th© past yc*>r had been a record one as far as tho society was concerned: it had been, certainly, a record year fer heavy work among the society’s member.-. Ho wished to thank the ladies of the society especially for the way in which they "had buckled to.” But for the ladies the big fair held at the opening of the new hall would not have been held, or. if it had been held, it would not have been a success. Regarding the finances of the society. they had never been stronger. They would not© that the receipts for the year exceeded expenditure by £402. which was of course, excellent. The balance of assets over liabilities was £.1573 10s 3d. and he could assure them that that was a very conservative estimate. The hall had been an unqualified success, and not only from the point of view of their own gatherings, blit also in respect of public gatherings, and most important of all, from the financial point of view. Mr Geo. Ritchie seconded the- motion.' which was agreed to without discussion. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, his Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Jollicoe; president. Mr C. 8. Thomai; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Ritchie. A. M’Kenzie, R. H. Rankin and Geo. Soy: directors, Messrs F. O. Bell. 'll. M. Donaldson. 8. A. M’DonalcL. R. E. Nightingale, A. F.. Purse, D. Young. D. G. The chairman announced that at a di rectors* meeting, held just prior to the start of the annual meeting, fourteen new members had been elected; this made a total of between fifty <and sixty now members since the beginning of the year. Mr J. O. Jameson referred to Sir Harry Lauder’s visit and to his advice to tli© Scotsmen of Christchurch to “ get together.” He suggested that, the directors should take that matter into consideration, and also to consider tli© question of extending a welcome to new arrival* trom Scotland and of making them honorary members of tho society for on. year The chairman said that both matters would i>© noted for consideration by tho incoming directors.
