CARE OF FEEBLE-MINDED.
A COMMITTEE APPOINTED. P*B P bess Association. WELLINGTON, May 14. The Minister of Health announces that a special committee has been set up to conduct an inquiry into the question of the care and treatment ot the feeble minded and sexual perverts in New Zealand. The personnel of the committee is:—Hon W. H. Tnggs M.L.C. (chairman), Dr J. S. Elliott and Sir Donald M’Gavin, elected by Board of Health; Mr C. E. Matthews, Under-Secretary to the Justice Department, appointed by the Minister for Justice; Mr .T. Beck. Officer in Charge of Special Schools, appointed by trie Minister for Education ; Dr A. C. Paterson, appointed by the Minister of Health. The following is the order of reference : To inquire and report as to the necessity for special care and treatment of the feeble-minded and subnormal and to propose the general means by which such care and ' treatment, if any, should be provided. To inquire and report as to the necessity for treatment of mental degenerate persons charged with sexual offences. To recommend the form of treatment for various types of cases. It is understood that I>r Truby King will probably also be a member of the committee.
