She won the medal at He re tan ga lately with 81 gross less 2, 79; and at Miramar she tied with Mis*s Brandon with a net 90, in the monthly medal.

H. B. Lusk, of Auckland, is arriving at Shirley this week. He lately undertook to act as advisor in the selection and laying out of a new golf course at Tauranga. A team of lady golfers from Richmond Hill has left for a tour in the south, and will play matches in Timaru, Temuka, Geraldine, Ashburton and Waimate. The bogey handicap played at Richmond Hill last Saturday was won by J- D. with 1 up, the next best being W. E. Holdgate, all square. At the Diamond Harbour Golf Club lust Saturday a mixed foursome comI*etition was played, for trophies presented by Messrs N. Greenland and E. R. Curtis, which was won by Miss C Williams and W. Jones. There was a large entry, and but for the severe change of weather which occurred suddenly during the afternoon, a most successful competition was held. There i* an increase in the membership this year, and the links are a decided attraction to visitors at Diamond Harbour. At Charteris Bay last week the Hagley Club players met to play a friendlv game with a team from the Lyttelton Golf Club, with the result that the visitors won with one game/ to spare. The boisterous weather, however, greatly interfered with the pleasantness of the day, and golf was more or less laborious. The monthly bogey match of the Hagley Ladies' Club was won by Miss D. H. Bruce, last week, with four down. In the bronze division Mrs OH. Burns won with two down. Others playing in the competition were:—Miss JPreston, Mrs Clark, Miss Norton, Miss Cotton, Miss Toxuson, Mrs Gresson, Mrs Tosswill, Mrs Alan Nicholls, Miss A. Newton, Mrs Steele, Mrs C F " Smith, Mrs Tyers, Mrs M’Clatchie, Miss G. Denshire, Miss Gates, Mrs Ross, Airs Bonnington, Miss D. Denshire. Airs Linzey, Mrs Hutton, Mrs Fleet! wood, Miss Hill, Miss Atkinson, Airs Terry, Mrs Chester, Airs R. Fisher, Mrs Blown, Mrs W. Nicholls, Mrs Hobbs, Mrs Styche, Mrs Quill, Mrs and Miss Taylor. Thp tie for Miss Thomson's second prize in the medal handicap at Hagley , between Mrs Tyers and Airs Pumphrey, was played off last week, and resulted in a uin for Airs Tyers. ( The monthly L.G.V. medal competition of the Christchurch Ladies' Golf Club was played last Wednesday and resulted in a win for Airs Donald, in the silver division, with the good score of 86—9—77. In the bronze division Airs Langford and Mrs Alills tied for first

place with net 87, Mrs Duncan being a close second with net 82. Tfie scoring, with the exception of the winning score, was not up to the general standard; some of the leading players having just returned from a strenuous tournament at Dunedin, but the entries were good, and a great many cards were handed in. The qualifying round of the Rawnsley Cup mixed foursomes will be played on Alay 17.

The first matcli-plav round of the Borthwick Vase was played last Saturday by the Christchurch Golf Club, when A. L. Cropp beat W. J. Wratt, O. 11. Tobin beat A. Taylor 9 and 7, J Dolpb beat W. E. Best 4 and 2, C W. Hodsdon beat C. A. Seymour 4 and 3. In the last-named match C. A. Seymour, for some unaccountable reason, lost his putting touch, and could not bold them at all. He became five down at the twelfth, and then rallied, taking the crossways in two and the upshot in four: but the brilliant flash did not last and he faded away, to be beaten at O'Rorkes. The second round will be played next Saturday, when A. L. Cropp will meet J. Dolph, and C. W. Hodsdon will meet- O’tiL. Tobin. \

A team from the Amberley Golf Club visited Kaiapoi last Saturday and played a four-ball foursome match, which resulted in a win for the home club by 8 games to 2. The Lewis Cup mixed foursome competition has opened at the Hagley links, the first round being played last Saturday. The second round will be played on June 7. The Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club M‘nt a challenge for the Boyle Cup to the Avondale Ladies’ Golf Club, which tfciok effect last Saturday, with the jesult that Avondale still holds the cup The Christchurch team did not win a single match. The- Avondale ladies aro truly a great stronghold on their own links, and it will be- a difficult task to win the Boyle Cup from them. The competition wil continue until well on in the season. i j A party of officers from the Special Service Squadron were the guests of the Wellington Golf Club at Heretaunga last Friday, when a number of matches were played ..with local players. The party included his Excellency ViceAdimraF Sir Frederick Field, who later in the day met his Excellency Hie Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe. The latter showed exceedingly good form . an.d defeated the distinguished visitor. Another interesting game was that betweeu Arthur Duncan and Commander Barry. The latter is a plus man in England. A four-ball was played in the morning and singles during the afternoon. .j Last week the Westport Golf Club i opened its season with a mixed foursome competition over nine holes, which was won by Aliss Harkness and F.
