ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Utility .Poultry Club was held last night. Air \\ . E. Green presiding. The startmerit of accounts presentcu by the treasurer (.Mr W. H. West) showed that receipts were £12*14 Is, including bunk balance forward £sl, entries £1331 ‘is. deposit- account. £203, egg sales £483 19s lid. The expenditure amounted to £ll3 18s. including food account £314 ss, wages £383 5s 2d. There was a credit balance of £llO 15s. Mr W. A. Gee *aid he could not agree -with the report with regard U> the finances, which were rot in a satisfactory position. The club had £2OO on deposit last year, and this, had been expended, which meant that the club

was £142 worse off this year. T&» feeding had cost 14s and the profit per bird, was Ss. The wages account was £383, and from these anybody could see that they were working on a suicidal policy. There was an amount of £B2 for secretarial work, which meant 8 per oent. A member said they seemed to have been selling eggs below the cost of production The treasurer (Mr West), replying in reference to the £2OO deposit account, said that the amount bad been drawn before he took office as treaMr R. W. Hawke said that the club had had a very stiff row to hoe for some years, but he believed that they would come out on top. He was confident that the Government would assist the club, as it was recognised the organisation was doing useful work. Ho urged that economy should b® practised in the future. The chairman said that the past year was a very low one as regard* the average profit. With other speakers, he believed that economy was necessary, though in what direction he did not know He hoped to hear of the announcement of a Government, giant very soon. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring secretary, Air Wilkins, for his services during the past year During the evening a presentation of a tea set, donated by Mr R W. Hawke, was to Air .T- R. Griffer, the club’s caretaker, to mark the record performance of the three-bird team of ducks which laid 900 eggs in fifty-two weeks, and in appreciation of Air Griffon's care of the birds. Air Griffen was also the recipient of an enlarged photograph of the champion duck. Lady Knight, which laid 363 eggs in 365 days.
