S.P.W.C. COLLECTION DAY.

.\ band of self-sacrificing women gave their services to-dav to collect funds to further the work ot the Society for the Protection of AVomen and Children. Members of -the society can tell of mothers who have been left with little I children to fight alone the battle of life, of children who are being sadly j neglected, and of children living in j undesirable surroundings. of voung ' women who need kindly guidance, and ! others who want advice about the child- | veil whose fathers have deserted them. lof the sad cases of illegitimacy, of I cases of old-age pensioners who need protection against themselves. These ' all come within the scope of the work of the S.P.AY.C. This is the fourj teentli year of the society’s work in j this city, and in the past year nloue ! 178 visits have been paid. 194. callers have been seen and advised, five childi ren have been adopted, and 84 miscellaneous cases attended to. j i At the office, 172. High Street, today, the officers of the society Averc very busy. Mr Alaekie and Afr Edridge counted the money and gave out boxes and badges, while Airs Rogers, the assistant secretary, dispatched collectors to the allotted “ beats.”
