Surrev in their first innings 'made 223 (Fender 107. Peach 20). Blanckenherj? took 3 for 78 and Pegler 6 for 63. The South Africans have lost five for 139 (Taylor 44. Nourse 23 Comaille 24). Hay was resumed in dull weather, the attendance being four thousand. Fender’s cricket was a feature of the day. He put on 55 in 42 minutes by excellent timing, and hit one six and twelve fours, scoring all round the wicket. The South Africans lost two wickets in the first four minutes. Tavlor batted stylishly.
