The programme foi this meeting, to be hejd at Ashburton on Tuesday, June 3, commencing at 0 a.m., reached the writer yesterday. 11m Ashburton Association is to be congratulated on the prize list, which sltouid be the means of securing a good entry from all over Canterbury. The New Zealand Championshio Mat-Cjh of ten shots with optional sigh tor carries prize money to the value of £*3o, distributed as follows:—First £*6, second £4, third £3, fourth £2, two of £1 10s each, six of £1 each and eight 10s prizes. The Champion Teams Match for teams of five men from any club carries for the first year a handsome shield donated by the citizens of Ashburton, and from the description sent by the secretary to “ Trigger,” it is a troohv worthy of any rifle meeting in New Zealand. There is also an Aggregate Championship for which handsome prizes have been allotted. Entries close on May 29 with the secretary, F. Clark, 28, Peter Street, A shburton. CLUB DOINGS. W. H. Harris. Ltd., are showing much better form than was the case last year. In a match against the Christchurch Working Mens Club juniors last week, they won by 11 points, the scores being 262 and 251 respectively. The scorers for the winners were L. Harris. C. M Cnllum and S. Stephens, with 34 each. For the weekly hotty competition, C. M'Cailum was the successful competitor. The club is most fortunate in having quite a number of supporters who have donated prizes, competition for which will improve the members’ shooting.

The Sydenham Miniature Rifle Club completed its monthly handicap competition on May 5. There were twen-ty-one entries, and the shoot resulted in W. H. Cockroft. R. Harrison, A. Piper, W. O’Connell ai;d F. Pegler tieing. In the fire-off, which took pla:e last week, the final scores were as follows A. Piper. 33, 1, 34; F. Pegler: 31. 2, 83; W. H. Cockroft, 31, ser 31; R. Harrison*3l, ser. 31; W. O’Connell, 20, l v 30. The Ward’s ladies’ club held ita weekly practice shoot on the club's range, there being a good attendance of members M?s Buchanan registered

Christchurch Breweries Club fired a friendly match against New Brighton on the Crown Brewery Range last Thursday evening, the home team winning by 11 points. The scores were as follows:—Christchurch Breweries: F. Sharman 35, L. Pimm 35, J. Chapman 30, F. Batt 34, A. Halmshaw 33, S. French 33, R Buchanan 33. Brigley 33; total 271. Brighton : Tims 35, F. Lightfoot 33, Hawker 33. A. Mutms 32, G. W. Bishop 32, \V. Hobbs 32. Samuels 32,, G. Cotton 31; total 260. The “Lyttelton Times” Club is shooting up to form, and some good scores have been registered during the week. T. Newton and -T. Bills each register - ed the possible, the latter putting on 16 consecutive bulks. Other good scores were B. Rogers 34. R. Wilson 34, Reg Morgan 34, N. Wilson 33, W. Bcynou 33 and H. Gracie 32. JOTTINGS. Some good totals are loostd for in the opening matches which commence to-night. Scores which have been put on in friendly matches late ly have been good, notably 275 Cashmere, 274 Sumner, 271 Christchurch Breweries. Len Pimm is agair. coaching the Christchurch Breweries members. He is back to form as can be seen by his possible against Brighton last week. D. M Domed, who was captain of Reece’s Club last year will be shooting for the Cashmere senior team this season. “Bob” Buchanan has been elected captain of the Breweries team. Haworth who won the Christchurch junior championship last season and is shooting for the “Hills” senior team, won his club’s second competition of three highest shoots with three possibles off the r^fle.
