Chief Postmaster Mi Justice Adams to-day excused Janies Porteous Barr from serving on common juries this session on the ground that he lives ten miles from Christchurch, milks thirty-six cows, nnd has a great deal of work to do in feeding his cattle and attending to other matters on his dairy farm. ! Francis H. Anderson, who milks thirty cows at Sumner, also was excused. His Honor said that he could not excuse John Henry Shaw, butcher, who has two employees, but he excused Robert S. Halhgan, who has a coal and firewooa business at Belfast, because he has no assistance, and would have to close his business while he was away. Edward Mackenzie Wilkes was excused for to-day because his father-in-law is seriously ill. but was ordered to attend to-morrow. After some consideration his Honor said that he would giv# the same consideration to Justin Francis Deal, who said that he was in charge of work on the Bridge of Remembrance, that nine men were en--2.a£e<l there, and that the work would stop in his absence.
