The ferry steamer Mararoa has been de layed at Wellington, and will not now arrive here until to-morrow. She will be •, doeked to-morrow and resume in the ferry service on Wednesday. Fire in the ship's holds can be extinguished either by steam from special pipes or by carbon di-oxide gas contained in a cylinder fitted to a portable machine. For the i-ading of heavy-weight cargo the vessels are fitted with a derrick at No. 2 hold capable of lifring fifty tons.
