CANTERBURY WOMEN’S CLUB.

CHRYSANTHEM I'M SHOW. At the Women’s Club yesterday afternoon a very fine show of chrysanthemums was held, organised by Mrs Claude Sawtell and Miss Stoddart to encourage the love of flowers and of gardening among the club members. Mr R. Nairn judged the exhibits which were all grown out-of-doors by the members ol : the club. He expressed the opinion that some of the specimen blooms wore equal to any he had seen at tlie Horticultural Show. Some particularly fine blooms were exhibited by Mrs Schneider. They were a. very good advertisement for the climate of the Cashmere Hills. A great many prizes were awarded to flowers grown on the hills. There were some very good exhibits of decorative work, notably two baskets, one of cream blooms and another of yellow and red chrysanthemums, while some large bowls arranged with autumn foliage were much admired. Miss Stoddart showed some very fine antirrhinums in her collection of flowers. At one end of the room afternoon tea was served and in a small room downstairs Mrs Cow per had an exhibition of lovely Indian work; embroidery and lace, handmade at Dummagudum and Masalipatane, for which she found a ready sale in aid of the Church of England Indian Missions. At 8 p.m. Mr Nairn lectured on the culture of chrysanthemums.
