HISTORY OF SPREYDON FROM 1864. September 15, 1869—Present Messrs Tancred. Morten, Sharpe and Hancock. The tender of Isaac Beo for deepening the drain alongside the footpath on the west side of Colombo Street at Is 6d per chain was accepted. Tho clerk was instructed to apply to the Provincial Council Secretary for the following ordinances :—The Sheep Ordinance, The 1864 Amendment Ordinance, The Trespass of Cattle Ordinance, The Fencing Ordinance and the Roads Ordinance, and to advise him that the hoard has not received any proclamation of the lxmndary of the South Waimakariri district referred to in clause 30 of the Canterbury River Act, 1868. He was also authorised to purchase tho Amended Bankruptcy Ordinance. It w r as resolved to write to the City Council inquiring W'hat expense they were willing to incur towards making a footpath and drain along the south side of the South Town Belt, bordering on the Spreydon district, afld in case of their refusing but allowing the work to be done by th© board the clerk is directed to advertise for tenders. Correspondence was received from Mr E. C. J. Stevens (later the Hon E. C. J. Stevens) respecting the drainage of the property occupied by Patrick Garringham, between tho South Christchurch Road and Montreal Street. The clerk was instructed to reply that the water was not censed by the works in Montreal Street, hut from earth placed there by the board at the expressed wish of the residents. It was agreed to write to ; the Board of Conservators for the South • Waimakariri district asking if they ! would take on the Heathcote and Halswell Rivers under their jurisdiction, and if refused tho chairman was authorised to advertise for tenders for cleaning same. October 20, 1869—Correspondence was received from the Riccarton Road Board requesting the board to co-oper-ate to obtain a giant from the Government for the eradication of thistles. The Clerk was ordered to reply that the board thought it would be advisable that some person were appointed to carry out the Thistle Ordinance, and suggested the Clerk of Road Boards. A requisition was from the ratepavers in the Hals well 7. art of the district that the road along the east sid** o' section 78 bo formr-. 1 . Tt was agreed to advise them that their wish would be acceded to. and to give notice to the occupiers of the land to clear it of corse and when cleared to advertise for tenders.
