The sun was shining brilliantly on an animated scene and the waterfront and other vantage points i were lined by a great crowd of spec--1 tators. | As the Hood approached the wharf to ! there was incessant hooting by sirens ashore and afloat. The sudden advent of sunshine after :t night’s heavy rain turned dismay to general cheerfulness. H.M S. Hood was safely berthed at Prince s A\ liarf on the eastern -side with H.M.S Delhi on the western side and the other warships in the stream. The civic reception takes place early this afternoon, when there will be speeches by the Mavor. the Premier end Vice-Admiral Field. LARGER FLEET NEEDED. Pee P*tjs Association. AUCKLAND, May 10. Admiral Field, speaking at a civic reception, said: “It is ot the greatest importance that New Zealand should ieel that its own trade, and everything vc love, should he safe if trtiuble comes.
