HOME FOR BABIES.
OPENED AT SUMNER. St Saviour’s Home for Babies, the most recent addition to the St Saviours institution was officially opened by Archbishop Julius at Sumner this afternoon, in the presence of a large attendance of people. In declaring the institution open Archbishop Julius said that it had been found that there was no provision for orphaned children under two years of age, and where the parents had been taken away leaving children over and under that age it had been possible to take and care for the children over two years of age, but nothing could be done for the children under that age who had to be provided for in other ways. St Saviour’s had had its beginning in a very small way, but now they had the institutions at iihirJey and Timaru. The place at Shirley was a very large institution. It had seized upon popular imagination and had called for popular support dnd sympathy, and the work was being carr-.ed on vigorously. Now it would be possible to care for children from birth up. The Archbishop then declared the building open, after which those present inspected the premises.
