CRICKET.

NOTICE TO PLAYERS. The Canterbury Umpires' Association has issued the following notice to playThe umpires officiating in local matches view with disapproval the growing practice of batsmen handling the ball in order to return it to the bowler. This is a distinct breach law 29. and in the event of appeal by any member of the fielding side the umpire has no option but to give the batsman out. Whilst such an appeal is regarded as against the best spirit of the game, everv effort should be made by players to see that the rules of the game are observed. It is considered that #enior players should set an example to juniors in this respect.
