Women and the Home
ONE TOUCH OF IVORY. The one-piece frock has vat possibilities . It can be indescribably smart >p utterly dowdy. English women have i tendency to wear plain frocks with a necklace as sole adornment. Tins is why so many .veil-c-ut dresses lack charm. They need a touch of ivory lawn or net at neck and wrists to give the right note of smartness and daintiness-- qualities in which American women excel These dainty collar and cuff are expensive to buy. But it i.> a simple matter for the woman who can handle t needle to make herself three or four sets. Hand sewn and edged with lace, they will stand constant laundering. Supposing you possess a simple, dark!ok>ured marvaain or re-ns free k with l very straight bateau neck and long
sieeves. Make two collars of cream washing net, slightly curved to match the neckline—one foi the back and one for the front of the frock. Let the collars be 2$ inches deep and the cuffs the same. Edge collars and cuffs with i inch real lace edging—Valenciennes or “ Nottingham " and in each cornet embroider a tiny ciicle the size of a sixpenny-piece, in cieam coloured mercerised thread. Other dainty sets may be made in the same way-—varying the little embroidery motif--of voile and filet lace edging, or lawn and a tiny Irish crochet edging. The cost will be about half hat, you would pay for tire same thing in a good shop. Very few women can stand the .severe line of dark material at the neckline, and one? you begin to wear these charming hand-made sets you will r.erer feel “ dressed ” without one.
