CRUSHED TO DEATH. Pkr Press Association*. THAMES. January 12. An inquest regarding the death of Malcolm Austin disclosed that deceased restarted work on Wednesday after a spell in the hospital. With two mates he left for work. He was ahead of the others. When crossing the river on a large kauri log in the bed of the stream, the log moved, causing Austin to lose his balance, lie fell and the log higher up the river bank rolled over, crushing deceased’s head completely off the body. It is surmised that rain undermined the logs. It had been customary to use the log as a pathway for a considerable time. A verdict was returned of accidental death CRUSHED IN' DRAIN.
