MANY CLOSELY CONTESTED GAMES.
Fine weather prevailed again this morning for the continuation of the singles championship in the eleventh annual tournament of the Dominion of New Zealand Howling Association. Yesterday, five rounds were completed and. under the two-life system in which players automatically drop out after two losses, the number of competitors was reduced considerably. Among the ex-champion players who dropped out were E. Harraway ( Dunedin), J. S. Kilgour (Carlton, Auckland), and W. McCallum (Temuka), who with T. Edwards won the pairs at the last tournament. C. R. Ingram (Wellington) and J. C. Rigby (Dunedin), past singles champions, T. Edwards (Temuka), J. Braekenridge (Newtown) and W. Spiller (Sydenham), members of former champion pairs, and W. Allan (Taieri) and W. Carswell (Taieri), members of past champion rinks, were left in. Players who did not have any losses yesterday were:—W. Feilding (Hataitai). J. Wooller (Remuera), G. Hall (Kaiapoi Working Men’s Club), R. Haworth (Canterbury). G. H. Bilcliff (United), Dr J. C. Pairman (Christchurch). F. Farrell (Caledonian). J. Abbot (Caledonian), C. G. Holmes (Waimate). W. Allan (Taieri), G. Hart (Masterton), I. Woolf (Christchurch), J. Rennie (Christchurch), W. J. Osborne (Wellington), W. Young (Kia Toa), T. S. Waddell (Timaru). C. G. Maher (West End. Auckland), Bremner (West End, Auckland), T. W. Besley (New Brighton), and W. Carswell (Taieri).
