ELECTRICAL BREAKDOWNS

A letter signed by many consumers Of power in the Ohoka and Ohapuku district was received by the Eyro County Council in which the signatories stated that they were very dissatisfied with the electric system and its constant breakdowns; and considered that the matter did not get sufficient attention from the clerk, who, in their opinion, should be awake at five o’clock each morning so as to be able to immediately inform the electrician, Mr Childs, should the power be off.

The matter having been a considerable source of annoyance to councillors and the clerk ns well as the consumers, Mr Childs was called upon to give the council at its meeting on Monday a full explanation. In his statement it was made clear that nothing further could have been done by the clerk than had been done, the whole source of trouble from the beginning haring been found in a faulty mechanical arrangement, and the 11.000 volt transformer, over which the department had refused to allow the council’s employees to have any supervision. Tt had at, last been discovered that, a portion the appliance was so insecurely attached in its place that it was dislodged therefrom by the- vibrations to the wires caused hy any high wind, and a portion of the attachment having gradually become looser and looser, the trouble had become more frequent. Mr Childs assured the council that as the matter was now remedied there should be no further trouble.
