TWO ARRESTS.

WILLIE LINCOLN’S LESSEE IN COURT. FOLICE ALLEGE RINGING-IN CONSPIRACY. known as the Out or Willie I in coin case has been heightened by the arrest at Dunedin of William Williamson, who drove the hors© at Invercargill. and by the arrest in Christchurch of William Percy Capes, a fruiterer. Williamson is charged with attempting to obtain the sum of £l5B 10s from the Southland Racing Club by false

pretences. Capes is charged with conspiring with Williamson and J. Goulding to defraud the club. CAPES IN COURT. William Percy Capes, a fruiterer, aged thirty-two. was charged in the Christchurch Magistrate’s Court today that on January 2 at Invercargill he had conspired with William Williamson and J. Goulding to defraud the Southland Racing Club by substituting the horse Willie Lincoln for the horse Look Out. Chief-Detective Cameron asked for a remand until January 16 at Dunedin. Mr Hobbs, who appeared on behalf of the accused, applied, for bail. The Chief Detective said he had a strong objection to bail. He had strong reason to believe that the charge was the first of many. If bail was granted he asked, that it should be most substantial. Mr Hobbs said that tbe accused was a man of substance and good security Gould be found. The Chief Detective said he would be satisfied provided the accused re ported each day to the police. The accused was accordingly remanded to appear in Dunedin on January 16. bail being fixed at £SOO. with two sureties of £SOO each, a special condition being that he should report to the police at 10 am. each day at Christchurch or Dunedin.
