HOLIDAY WEATHER.
CLOUDY, BUT PROMISING. A clouded sky this morning raised early apprehensions of rain, but be yond a couple of very light showers, which were insufficient to thoroughly wet the pavements no rain fell up till noon. The sky, however, remained heavily overcast, but a light northwest wind gave promise of a continuance of dry conditions. Both in the north-west and tho south-west there were arcs of clear sky. The air was comfortably cool. Most persons wers content to take the risk of going out without overcoats. At midday th® likelihood of rain 6eemed slighter than it was earlier in the day. The cooler weather was appreciated bv'large crowds of people who thronged the streets. All shops seemed to be crowded, and outwardly at least business people were having a Christmas Eve as hapt>v as it was busy.
