FIVE PERSONS KILLED.

DESPERATE HUSBAND’S ACT. TRAGIC END TO PARTY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.—Aus. and NT.Z. Cable Assn. (Received December 24, 10.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, December 22. A telegram from Cooper’s Mills, Maine, says that, driven to desperation and madness by separation from his wife, John Snow, a Polish lumberman, aged 25, killed five persons and himself. Mrs Snow, who was living with her eighty-year-old mother as the result of a quarrel with her husband, was entertaining some friends including a neighbour’s wife and son, and Mr Snow’s sister. Snow, who worked in the woods nearby, told a friend earlier in the day that he missed his wife very much and wept. Snow apparently proceeded to his mother-in-law’s house and came upon the group of women. An altercation occurred. Snow procured a revolver and shot the four women, the boy, and himself. A passer-by discovered the tragedy.”
