FATHER CHRISTMAS AT THE R.S.A.

- Over five hundred children were present in the grounds at the Jellicoe Hall this afternoon, when Father Christmas paid a visit and distributed toys. In the hall was a large Christmas tree, heavily laden with toys of all descriptions, while ranged at either side were tables with further quotas of toys. The children, with their parents, made a crowd that quite filled the grounds, and it is safe to say that a happier throng has never congregated there. Colonel Stewart, president of the Christchurch R.S.A., under whose auspices the function was held, welcomed the children, and explained that each child would file past Father Christcaas in the hall and receive a present. Despite the large number of children present, there was something good for each one, and all seemed thoroughly delighted. The proceedings were enlivened by the antics of a couple of clowns who conducted scrambles for lollies, and were chased about the grounds for crackers and other delicacies. . Kach child was given a ticket bearing a number, and later when the numbers were drawn the lucky boy and girl received a fine yacht and a beautiful doll respectively* The fortunate boy was Colin Wakelin, and the girl Joyce Bamford. Throughout the afternoon the children were kept fully entertained, even the tiniest tots joining in the general merriment.
