WATERING GARDENS
PROSECUTION TO TAKE PLACE. The* Water Supply Committee reported to the City Council last, evening that it had recently decided that inspections should he made with a view to prosecuting persons watering gardens from high pressure water supply by means of a hose and where meters are not installed. The Water Inspector reported that, covering a period of ten days the names of seventeen persons were taken for such offences. The committee recommended that proceedings be taken against one offender only, this action being sufficient to act as a warning to others. The person selected for prosecution was one who was warped by an officer of the council a week or two previous to the present offence. The Mayor (Mi* J A. Flesher) said it seemed strange that only one offender should he prosecuted. He believed there had been somo glaring cases. Councillor E. R. M*Combs: How was one “selected” for prosecution ? It reads as if it were ari honour. * Councillor A. Williams said the com* mittee had chosen a case where a warning had been given previously. The committee’s recommendation was adopted.
