RED COAL TAR DYE USED. NOT “ RICH RASPBERRY.” Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 14. In the Police Court, Irvine and Stevenson were fined £5 for gelling a tin of apple and raspberry jam containing red coal tar dye. contrary to the regulations. For the prosecution, it was stated that in 1915 formal warnings were issued to firms, including defendant*. It was not suggested that the colouring was deleterious, but the measures were taken to protect the public from being deceived into the belief that they were getting rich raspberry. d It was stated for the defence that the senior partner was absent, and the ' colouring matter was used without his knowledge.
