ON THE ROCKS.
BY SINBAD. I weep for the poor British Tories, for sad is their outlook today ; their lofty positon and glories are certainly sailing away. It’s not long ago since their party seemed safe and secure at the top ; it had a majority hearty, so firmly in power did it stop. It seemed that the good vessel “ Tory,” with Baldwin controlling the wheel, would sail, till the end of the story, upon an unwavering keel. ’Twas steered with the utmost precision, and smart were the men of the crew, and ever the skipper’s decision they cheerfully hurried to do. The prospects could never be fairer for vessel that ever set sail, and for quite a. while there was ne’er a suspicion of tempest or gale ; but uow on the rocks of Protection this un happy vessel has split, and thus on the shoals of Election it merely has stranded a bit. On board there is wailing and weeping, and cries of. ” Wbate’er shall we, do?” ; the violent waves that are sweeping have swamped many men of the crew. Oh. sadly the vessel is smitten. and lucky she’ll be if she docks; as here, so it seems, in Great Britain, the ” Tory,” is right on the rocks.
