The oourse covers three miles three hundred yards from above Rlverlea wharf to the mouth of Lucas Island nortn of Per© Island. Hannon had to pull against a strong wind and tide, but rowing well within himself and at twentyfive strokes a minute throughout, he ©ov» ered the distance in twenty minutes thirty seconds. Jle was accompanied over half the course by Stevenson. New Zealand amateur champion. The spectators, among whom were members of the Harbour Board and the Hon Prudence Jellicoe, were impressed with Hannon’s style and the suitability of the oourse. Hannon will go into serious training on the arrival of his trainer, G. Wareham, in a few days. The date of the raoe i«? tentatively January 19. M’Dovltt. the challenger, is expected here next week.
