MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr J. H. Seager, .T P . and Mr S. C- Bingham. J.P.) DR UNKENNESS. A first offender was fined 10s. in default twenty-four hours’ imprisonWilliam Columbus was fined 10s. in default forty-eight hours’ imprisonment. He was remanded to appear on November 21 on a charge of being found illegally on the premises of the Grosvenor Hotel. A DRAUGHTY HOME. [ John Toomey. a young man. who appeared in a dirty, miserable condition. was charged with being an idle : and disorderly person in that he had j no lawful visible means of support, j Senior-Sergeant I.ewin said that the accused had been found sleeping in the partially erected Public Trust buildi ings in Oxford Terrace. The accused expressed a desire to i go back to the country, but the Bench { decided that a short period of detenj tion would be more beneficial, and he 1 was sentenced to one month's im- | prison merit. j UNWELCOME PERSISTENCE. ! Frank M’Clusky would not take a | warning and that was why he was j charged with being a rogue and vagai bond, in that he was found unlawfully | on the premises of Guthrie's Boardinghouse. Moorhouse Avenue. Senior-Sergeant Lewin said that the accused had been found prowling about the bedrooms during the day, and was warned to go away, but he. returned again in the evening and was then arrested. The accused explained that he was a resident of Dunedin, and had como up to have a look at the races, hut during his stay in Christchurch he had taken too much drink, and that was the cause of his trouble. He was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. REMANDED. James Bernard Simms was charged with having stolen, at Rangiora. a Gladstone bag valued at £6, the property of Alexander Townley. The accused was remanded for a week, and bail was allowed in £IOO and two sureties of £-50 each.
