“STAR" CHRISTMAS NUMBER.

SERIES OF COMPETITIONS. PROSE, POETRY AND PICTURES. A series of competitions has been arranged for this year’s Christmas number of the “Star.” The competitions will cater for the story writer, the poet (senior and junior), and the photographic artist. The subjects of the competitions and the prizes offered are as folioW6 : 1. ORIGINAL STORY, not to exceed 2000 words. First prize £5 ss, second prize £3 3s. 2. ORIGINAL POEM. subject “ A Canterbury Summer.” First prize £3, second prize £2. 3. CHILDREN’S POEM, any subject, open to children under 14. First prize £1 Is, second prize 15s. 4. PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIES relating to Canterbury. Subjects maybe chosen from the seaside (yachting, boating or bathing), the Avon, the Port Hills, the farming districts or tho mountains. The prints must he suitable for reproduction and not less than postcard size. Prizes £2 10s, £2, £1 I Os, £l. Others accepted for reproduction 7s 6d each. o. BEAUTY COMPETITION. Original Photographic Portrait Study of Pretty Canterbury or Westland Girl. Must be posecj and. printed by amateurs. The name and address of tho subject of the portrait study must bo given. Prizes £3 3s each to winning photographer and lady, £2 2s each to second photographer and lady, and £1 Is each to third photographer and lady. The awards in all competitions will be made by the Editor of the “ Star ” whose decision will be final. Entries will be received up to November 20. Each entrv should be accompanied by a stamped and addressed envelope, for return if not accepted.
